SUN CINEMA

The cinema project: revitalizing Toruń’s cultural landscape

Sun Cinema in Toruń is designed as a multifaceted cultural venue that integrates contemporary architectural elements with the historical context of the Old Town. The project incorporates various screening options, including a traditional cinema room, an intimate lounge-like area with large sofas, and a rooftop cinema that allows for open-air screenings. This diversity of spaces aims to cater to different audience preferences while enhancing community engagement.

Architecturally, the cinema features a façade finished in traditional brick, paying homage to the surrounding historic architecture. This choice of material not only blends with the city’s character but also creates a sense of continuity with the existing urban fabric. In contrast, the use of glazed panels and steel elements introduces a modern touch, connecting the building’s exterior to its interior functions. The interplay of these materials emphasizes the cinema’s dual role as both a public entertainment facility and a community space.

The design thoughtfully addresses the need for accessibility and interaction, with dedicated spaces for film discussions, theater classes, and workshops, ensuring the cinema serves a broader educational purpose. The incorporation of large windows and open spaces allows natural light to flood the interior, enhancing the visitor experience and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
